Goals for my Biz during 2010 ~AND~ Handmade Gift Guide ~AND~ Specially Marked Post :)

First off, Happy 2010, again!

I'm not usually into the whole "New Year's Resolution" thing. And, frankly, I'm still not. But, I have made a couple of goals for myself during 2010 regarding my Jewelry Business!

~~I have this blog~~ It's usually very much ignored :( But, for 2010, and a fresh new start, I've updated the background!

~~ My first goal is to try to post AT LEAST weekly, if not a couple of times per week.
~~Also regarding my blog, which will help me with weekly posts, I want to feature Artisans like myself! I would like to try to feature an Artisan every two weeks. Everyone needs a little more exposure!
~~I also have a way I would like to select my next Artisan for the blog feature. All you have to do to be "entered" into the drawing for the next Artisan Feature is simply comment on my Blog posts! Easy. Simple as that! This allows me an unbiased way to select Artists, as well as, hopefully bring more traffic to my blog. I'll have special posts that will request your comments for the feature. Though, I'd like you to ALWAYS comment on my blog posts if you read them!
I'll pull the names from "specially marked" blog posts for the next feature. The selected Artist will be asked a few questions, and will be featured within, hopefully, one week.

~~ My next goal is to be better organized. I need to totally re-do, and inventory what I have! I have general containers, drawers that are for particular supplies, but, it's getting to that point where it's not working anymore! Drawer for Sterling Silver findings?? Well, you have jumprings, little ball spacers, daisy spacers, chain, clasps, crimps, charms, links, blah blah blah! See?? Same goes for bronze findings, copper findings, gemstones.....and it goes on and on and on!
~~ Along with this organization goes keeping up, better, with my tax stuff. I keep everything in folders according to quarter, but, I need to start actually entering this stuff into my Excel spreadsheets as I go. Instead, I wait until tax season is upon us and I start scrambling.

Happy New Year! Let's get it started right!

Hi, Amanda. I like your blog. I may email you with some how did you do this... questions. About organization, have you tried the sporting good section, for fishing tackle boxes for those jewelry findings? I know craft stores have quite a variety, but tackle boxes might offer something different. Good Luck on the blog. I need to get to work on photos; I have stuff to list, but they need to be photographed properly (Glossy glazed pottery is so hard to shoot!) Sharon/Hurricane Pottery

Oh, you know I loved the bronzed fleur de lis earrings you made. I gave the silver ones to my daughter. She loved hers also. She wore them on Christmas with rhinestone fleur de lis pendant her cousing gave her! Thanks

I'm with you on New Year's Eve resolutions but I made a new goal for 2010 and started it in December. Instead of whining about low sales and the economy I decided to branch out and refocus my business and started a collective whose goal is a doggie bling gift bag for donation and for retail this year. So far it is going good. I have actually taken 2preorders on the bag and it is a high end bag geared towards dog breeders and dog show people.

Congrats on your feature! Best of luck with all your changes for 2010! I second the tackle box idea said above. I use a big tackle box and have all my stuff in compartments and can carry it wherever I want to go. Pretty handy! Oh and good luck keeping up with that tax stuff! :D

Yay for goals! I tried to do a blog-a-day last year but only managed one month of that. Your goal sounds much more reasonable. Congrats and good luck!

I see you figured out the three column thing for your blog. I have quite a few empty film canisters, prefer the clear ones from Fujifilm. They hold tiny things without spilling and you can fit about 45 in the shallow drawers that come in 3's. Of course film canisters are getting harder to come by these days (My DH was a news photographer for years and I was able to get a good stash - and I use them all!)

I use tackle boxes like Sharon suggested. It works ok, but I always wonder if there is a better way. I will be watching to see what you decide to do. There are just so many tiny pieces :)

Wonderful feature Amanda!
Great goals for 2010!
Here's wishing you much more success!

As for the storage ideas:
The tackle boxes are great, especially for traveling. I also have a couple of hundred of the compartment trays found in the fishing section of Wally World to store some of my beadies but would still like to come up with a much better solution myself :)

I can appreciate trying to drum up readers for you blog. I am trying to do that this year also.
I love featuring artisans on my blog. There are so many talented people out there and from what I see you are one of those. Great job and I wish you the best in organization. :)
